Mixed Friendly Matches

We prefer to win our friendly matches, but in truth they are social occasions rather than competitive ones. All players are welcome, the atmosphere is convivial and supportive and encouraging to less experienced bowlers.

We don't find out about all the friendly matches teams & results, but the ones we do know about are listed below. If the Captain of the day emails Giles at gilesbris@yahoo.com then I'll update this page.

Thame got their revenge, beating us 69-57, but it was a beautiful day and a great time was had by all.

Sorry, we don't have team lists or the score for this one, but we can record that Wexham fielded a fine team who beat us convincingly, and it was a very enjoyable match in spite of that.

A fabulous match at Thame with the overall score in favour of GX, 106 - 91. Our team included seven new members with Patrick Johnson, Tony Green and Jo Lidgate our top rink. Chatting to the new members they all agreed it was a great experience and keen to play again if selected, some played second but from the result you can see they all did the club proud.

Captain of the day Janice reports that they had a lovely game of bowls on what was a challenging green at Rosedale Park, and the sun did surprisingly make an appearance.

Score was Gerrards Cross 66, Rosedale Park 54.  Highest winning rink was Pamela King, Chris Commons and David Hall.

Rain stopped play briefly, but the weather was otherwise pleasant, as was the company. Bassetsbury Manor brought good players and deserved their convincing win.

On a dry but quite cold afternoon 6 triples finally took to the green and enjoyed a friendly but hard-fought game. Iver Heath came out overall winners 133-82 on the day. Our highest winning triple scoring a win of 17-14 were awarded the Captain's pens: Christine Cornwell, Derek Evans & Patrick Johnson.

We took a full squad to Princes Risborough on Sunday, with three players making their debuts for the club - Trudi Arnold, Richard Calhoun and Ernie Ricketts.

After a wonderful afternoon's bowling, we emerged victorious with an overall score of 99 points versus 89. Particular congratulations must go to Janice Welsh who steered her team of herself, Richard and Ernie to best overall rink.

1. Well before the matches all GXBC playing members will get an email looking like the one below.

2. This is an opportunity to declare your availability to play in one or all of a number of Mixed Friendly matches. If its more convenient for you you can add your name to the match entry sheet on the club notice board. A final team is not chosen until 14 days before the playing date.

3. Click the first blue link to book - choose the matches one by one.

4. Alternatively you might start by clicking the second link (blue) and see if your friends have already booked to play. If you do that then you must return to the original email page to find the first link to use.

6. If you do not want to play just ignore the invite. No need to respond.
