Erasers

The Erasers play in Division 1 of the Southern Red League, coming second in 2019.

2018

League Final: 16th September at GXBC.

The Erasers reached the League final - a play-off against the winners of the other four divisions.

Our first match was at 9am. With five teams to play to decide on a winner, two of them have to play a preliminary round before the semi-finals. This year that was us and a team from Wendover, starting at 9am. Maureen led, Michael played number 2, Keith was 3 and Duncan skipped. We took an early lead, Wendover never managed to claw it back and we ended 5 up.

The second match was a more exciting event, against the Chandos Park Chokers. We changed the team - Mary led, then Duncan, then Michael, then Keith. Again we took an early lead, but Chandos Park recovered and were one ahead after 15 ends after a fine drive by their skip. However we persevered, and were four up going into the last end, and Chandos Park conceded when it became apparent that they couldn't match that.

The final was against Wolverton Town Wanderers. We kept the same team as the previous match, and they built up a good lead - we were seven up after 11 ends - but Wolverton whittled it away and we ended up winning by just one point.

The full squad in 2018 was David Grieve, Duncan Gauld, Mary Smith, Maureen Merry, Tim Jones, Michael Gomme, Keith Patrick, Katie Reid and Sylvia Briden.

Earlier matches, in reverse order:

On August 29th we lost 25-11 to Marlow, who are hard to beat on their home ground. Fortunately it didn't stop us winning the section.

On 24th August we beat Iver, away, 18-14 after being 12-4 down against a strong line up in hail and pouring rain. This made us winners of the section: we couldn't be beaten whatever the results of the remaining games, and were set to play against the winners of the other areas/sections in the final at GXBC on September 16th.

On 22nd August we beat Chesham Allsorts 26-5 away.

On 15th August we beat our nearest competitors, Iver Saints, at home

On 8th August Katie, Anthony Parrott, Michael and Duncan beat Flackwell Cherry Woods at home.
