Ray
Keen League -
Organisation
Previously known as the
Bucks leagues, now renamed
in memory of Ray Keen, a
former GXBC member and
important figure in
National Bowls who died
recently and is much
missed.
This
is a County mixed league
competition, one rink in
each match. It is played
on Wednesday evenings from
about the end June until
the end of August, with a
finals day in
mid-September.
The competition is
structured into three
areas - North, Central and
South. We play in the
South. The North and South
areas are both split into
two sections, Red and
Blue; and there are four
divisions in each section.
There are five or six
teams in each division and
we play each other twice,
home and away, so eight or
ten games in the season,
plus the finals day - a
play-off between the
division 1 winners in each
section, when we hope to
see our teams play each
other for the title.
Normally the winner of
each division gets
promoted, the loser goes
down.
The full rules, and the
draw and results so far
can be found
here.

We are increasing the
number of squads we enter
for the Bucks leagues. In
2017 we ran four teams,
all of which are now in
division one of their
respective 'areas', and
two of which ended up as
the County League
Champions.
The Rowers was new in
2018, and was formed with
the intention of
recruiting relatively
inexperienced players into
the leagues. The team
played always included one
good, experienced player
to provide leadership and
advice. It won its
division in 2018, getting
promoted to the next
division up, so in 2019
we fielded a fifth team,
the Pick & Mix, for
players new to competitive
bowling, led by an
experienced player.
The Pick&Mix won their
division in 2019, so we
added a sixth team,
"Maltmans", again for
players new to competitive
bowling, again led by
experienced skips.
